Update #7:Part Assignments and Conference Updates |
Greeting, Pride Bands Alliance,
We are two and a half months (only 73 days) away from The Heart of It All! The Columbus conference team is hard at work getting everything in place for July. This month’s update is another big one, so make sure you read all the way to the end so you don’t miss a single thing!
Have questions or need more info? Email the conference team at conference@columbuspridebands.org |
|
Regular Registration Ends Soon! |
Regular registration ends May 31st. Conference registration will go from $105 to $120, so hurry up and register now before it’s too late. |
|
Late registration runs from June 1st to July 1st. Conference registration will be closed after July 1st! |
|
Host Hotel is Full! |
|
The Conference host hotel, The Downtown Renaissance Columbus by Marriott, is officially full! We maxed out our entire 740-night room block, and the hotel has no more rooms to release to us.
For anyone still in need of lodging while in Columbus, we are recommending The Courtyard by Marriott which is one block away from the host hotel. We are happy to assist with recommendations on other hotels as well as AirBNB’s.
Still in need of a room but really want to stay at the host hotel? Our conference Facebook page is the perfect place to connect with other conference attendees who may be looking to share a room. |
|
|
Registration Numbers |
| We are currently at 370 registrations with 270 from outside of Columbus. That’s five registrations away from hitting a milestone of 375!
Lakeside Pride is just one registration away from a $100 gift card to Stanton’s Sheet Music.
These registration numbers are some of the biggest ever at a Pride Bands conference!
The Columbus team has been reaching out to businesses in downtown Columbus near the host hotel and alerting them that nearly 400 people will be looking for meals and nightlife during the conference week. |

Hopefully, these businesses will be better prepared to handle our big groups, allowing for shorter waits as we grab a quick bite to eat. |

Conference T-shirt |
We are proud to share this exclusive first look at the official 2024 Conference t-shirt! |
|
The conference t-shirt will be part of the uniform for the pep band and color guard performances. Still need to get a t-shirt? You can purchase one right now through the conference registration. |
|
Scroll all the way to the bottom of the registration to get to the Add-Ons section where you can purchase the conference t-shirt.
FYI – you are able to purchase the shirt without purchasing a conference registration. |

Concert Band Music and Part Assignments |
Music and part assignments are now available for the concert bands! Ensuring strong players were assigned to each part as well as having musical balance was our priority in making these assignments. We greatly appreciate everyone letting us know their preferences so we could assign and distribute parts in an effort to achieve that priority.
We are still finalizing the percussion part assignments and plan to have those added to the rosters early next week. The conference ADs have been working closely with percussionists here in Columbus and throughout the Pride Bands family in assigning parts to make sure everyone has access to a musically fulfilling and engaging concert band experience.
One important announcement – our Artistic Team made the decision to switch “Ayo” and “Fanfare Hayabusa” to establish more balance between the two concert band programs. “Ayo” is now being performed by the Scioto Band, and “Fanfare Hayabusa” is now being performed by the Olentangy Band.
Part assignments can be found on the concert band rosters that went out last month, linked below: |

We are still awaiting two pieces, the Viet Cuong commission and “Highlights from Bye Bye Birdie.”
The first draft of the commission should be sent our way next week, and we hope to have the final version before the Memorial Day holiday.
“Bye Bye Birdie” is out of print, so we had to obtain it through some clever networking. It’s in the mail to us right now and should be added to the folders this upcoming week. |

Big Band Music, Roster and Part Assignments |
Music and part assignments are now available for the Big Band! The Big Band artistic team would like to thank everyone who auditioned. A primary focus of our conference’s big band was making big band and jazz music more accessible for those who may never have had the opportunity to perform in these types of ensembles. We hope some of these first timers are inspired to continue performing and auditioning in future conferences. |

Pep Band Part Assignments and Music Update |
Part assignments for pep band are now available! As with concert band percussion, we are still finalizing pep band percussion part assignments and should have them added to the rosters early in the coming week. |
Part assignments can be found on the rosters that went out last month, linked below: |
|
The last of our pep band music arrived at Stanton’s Sheet Music just yesterday! Our conference librarian is working diligently through the weekend to scan parts so they can be available asap! The conference team will send out a follow up announcement with links to the pep band music once it is available. |
|
|
Color Guard Update |
Those who expressed interest in the conference color guard will be receiving an email this weekend with the first routine and music file for the color guard performance.
Our Color Guard Coordinator Jose Ayala is putting the finishing touches on the second routine and music, and he hopes to have them sent out by the end of the coming week.
Anyone with questions about color guard can email Jose at: colorguard@columbuspridebands.org. |
|
Chamber Recital Update |
The conference chamber recital currently has 11 ensembles signed up to perform in the beautiful and historic Ohio Statehouse. Due to the overwhelming interest in the recital, the conference team has decided to end sign ups a few days early. Adding any additional ensembles would result in less performance time for each ensemble. |
| The ensembles signed up to perform at the recital are:
Flute soloist French Horn soloist Oboe Bassoon Piano Trio Woodwind Quartet Saxophone Quartet Percussion Quartet Brass Quintet Flute Choir Clarinet Choir Tuba Euphonium Choir Brass Choir |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
A large Percussion Ensemble is also forming which will be featured during a different part of the conference. The logistics of moving the full contingent of concert percussion into and then out of the Statehouse ended up being a bit too challenging and potentially would have required us to disassemble some of the larger pieces of equipment.
More info on the chamber recital as well as the percussion ensemble will be available soon. |

Workshops Update |
The Columbus Conference team is thrilled to host three workshops at the 2024 conference in addition to our keynote address. We have confirmed our topics presenters and are awaiting materials from presenters before announcing the full details. We expect to receive the last of these materials in the coming days, and we hope to release the full details by end of next week. |

The Conference FAQ aims to cover any questions someone may have about the conference. Confirming dates, times and addresses, dress code for performances and events, tips for getting around downtown Columbus and so much more.
We’re also on track to release our Conference Participant Guide in early June. This guide will contain information on things to do and places to go while in Columbus. We’ll be listing restaurants, nightlife, events, museums and tourist attractions in Columbus and throughout Ohio. |

Something Wrong with Rosters and Assignments? |
|
You can reach out to conference@columbuspridebands.org if you have any questions or need any additional information. And please get in touch asap if anything looks wrong or needs to be changed with the rosters that were just released.
